Rebooting Your Business w/ Susie Ellis

2.9.23 rebooting your business w susie ellis date-1

Being a successful real estate agent requires hard work and a solid strategy. But what happens when circumstances force you to move to a new area and start over?

In this episode of “Keeping It Real,” we turn to Susie Ellis, one of Florida’s top real estate agents, for guidance on how to reboot your real estate business as an outsider.

Susie has had to rebuild her business several times over the course of her career. Her first piece of advice is to be available.

Be Available

“This is how you work — be available.” -Susie Ellis

She recalls her time working the luxury market on Barrier Island, where she made herself available for open houses even during the slow winter months. This set her apart from other agents and opened up new opportunities.

Another key to success is networking. When Susie moved to Anchorage, Alaska, she was starting from scratch. She offered her services to a landowner who was not well-liked and impressed prospects from showings referred her to other buyers and sellers.

Within just 14 months, Susie had established herself as a go-to real estate agent in Anchorage.

Being a facilitator is also important when rebooting your business. Susie advises shifting your focus from being the best realtor in your new area to being one that’s willing to help.

Everything you do should communicate that you’re there for your clients, and they’re the star of the show, not you.

Susie also stresses the importance of identifying your gaps and filling them. For example, when she moved to Florida, she found she needed a way to generate leads.

She learned about cold-calling and used Vulcan7 to generate prospects and leads. This shows the importance of recognizing your weaknesses and addressing them.

Finally, Susie encourages real estate agents to leave the tech stuff to the experts. Technology is crucial in the real estate game, and having a reliable platform that offers CRM and other tech integrations can make a big difference.

Susie uses Real Geeks, a platform that keeps her and her leads in the loop, and she suggests agents sign up to see the difference for themselves.

In conclusion, rebooting your real estate business as an outsider can be challenging, but with the right approach, it’s possible to establish yourself as a credible realtor.

By being available, networking, playing the role of a facilitator, identifying your gaps, and leaving the tech stuff to the experts, you can set yourself up for success.

Discovery Phase

The discovery phase is meant to determine whether or not the agents being recruited are the right fit for their real estate team while providing the necessary details for the agents to know what their team is about. Sascha first discusses their team goals and strategies to ensure agents know exactly what they're walking into. He also discusses other matters, such as expectations from the agents themselves and their commissions.

The discovery phase may be one of the most important parts of knowing how to equip your real estate team for success. In order to succeed, you need to have a reliable workforce on your side that shares the same goals and is willing to cooperate with the rest of the team to move forward. Having a compatible and efficient team is one of the best resources you can have in real estate, as it can significantly affect your business' productivity.

Agent Utility Belt

This is the highlight of the entire video. Sascha compares his utility belt of resources to Batman's belt of tools and trinkets. This belt essentially exists to store all resources and keep them within reach. Don't get the wrong idea, though. It's not an actual belt. Instead, it is usually a cloud or a compilation of all your valuable resources, such as videos, links, and other agent tools. Having a utility belt that is curated specifically for your team and your needs could help increase the productivity of your workflow because you won't have to scavenge for resources when you need them.

Not only does it make you more productive within your workplace, but it also gives off the sense that you are reliable and organized. When clients ask for something, you will easily have it within reach.

Clients understandably have many questions before closing the deal, so one of the best ways to answer them is to grab a resource from your utility belt. For example, you're talking to a client about title insurance. Instead of answering their questions yourself, you could take an informative video from your utility belt and ask them to watch it. This makes it easier to understand and relate to.

Having a utility belt is a great way to equip your real estate team for success. It also comes in useful during business transactions. All in all, it's one of the best resources that a real estate team can have.
