We sat down with Joel Johnson, owner of Empire Realty to learn how he utilizes the Real Geeks platform to close deals throughout Fairbanks, Alaska.
About Fairbanks
Joel was born and raised in Fairbanks, and he's proud of it.
"When people think of Alaska they think big mountains and trees - and Fairbanks is none of that. It's a tundra-like arctic environment, with no shortage of things to do."
Some of those things come to mind: hiking, biking, hunting. But some others might surprise us: skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, fat tire biking, snowmobiling. Not to mention the Ice Art festival and the beautiful Aurora Borealis sightings.
Empire Realty's Start
Joel decided to open his own office with absolutely no investment. Which meant he had to start generating money quickly.
"There were 7 of us, I had only bought us some plastic card tables. I sat down and said: the first thing we need is some income."
Joel researched the big names: Boomtown, Zurple, MarketLeader, and RealGeeks.
"We quickly decided on RealGeeks, and right away initiated the RealLeads portion of it."
At the time, it was definitely a significant expense for them. But as the first lead came through, Joel couldn't believe his eyes.
"That's actually ours. It's our lead. It was the most amazing feeling in the world."
The Impact of a Good Platform
Fast forward 7 years, and RealGeeks is still a core element of Joel's business.
"We've been generating around 2,000 leads a year. And I still have all of them"
Joel compares it to the Trans Alaska Pipeline, with trails of oil coming in.
"I was amazed at the amount of oil coming out of RealGeeks. I couldn't keep up with the amount of [leads] coming in the funnel!"
Just this year, they've doubled the sales team that they had, and they've tripled their income.
"I have more business than I have people. What an incredible opportunity to have."
Joel's Advice to Real Estate Agents
"Start, and then don't stop. You have to give the machine a while to keep going - and once it does, you'll go from not thinking you're ever gonna sell anything to having more business than you know what to do with."
